3 Steps to install skype 4.3 on Ubuntu 14.04 / 12.04

Follow the given steps to install Skype 4.3.0.37 On Ubuntu 14.04 / 12.04

Here all steps are done with command lines.

Step 1: Enable Canonical Partner repository

The $(lsb_release -sc) command give the output which Ubuntu version are you using. For example for Ubuntu 14.04 is Trusty Tahr. Hence, by the given below command is smart to get the which Ubuntu version you are using and what resective repository should be added.

sudo add-apt-repository "deb http://archive.canonical.com/ $(lsb_release -sc) partner"

Step 2: Update repository list

Now run the below given command, it will update the apt repo information in system.

sudo apt-get update

Step 3: Install Skype

Install skype now .

sudo apt-get install skype

After running above command,on screen you will see very long list of packages as dependency to be installed. It is quite obvious it will take time, depend upon your internet speed.

Lets have a look.

After all packages get installed, Open the dash home and write skype. It will show you Skype logo, click on it to open.

First time, you will see on screen about skype’s user agreement. Click to “I agree“.

  2. Thanks Sharad. I have a problem using the above. I am running 14.04 LTS and privoxy as the proxy ( host being 127.0.0.1 and port 8118 ), skype 4.3.0.37.

    under options.. . I am not sure what to fill in use ???? port for incoming connections..(currently appearing as 0)

    problem is when i click on microsoft account it goes on for some time and returns a message internet is too slow..

    I also use a laptop with linux and skype with out proxy which works fine..

    Could you please help..regards,
