Bloggers beware from scam and spam
Just 8 hours ago I got an email for Adspace Advertisment proposal for my blog sharadchhetri.com .
Was it amazing for me? No. After reading the email my first thought was this is a scam. An email which was beautifully written, a person who is not aware about type of scamming/spamming and can not identify or confirm it is a scam or spam ,there is a chance that he will be screwed.
First of all thanks to scammer who sent me the email because it helps me to collect the samples ,how the people do spaming and scam. And it also give me the chance to how can I describe it is a scam or spam.
The scammer/spammer addressed itself as Kathy Gonzales from MediaDiscovery.com . In its email, proposal is for Advertisement space plus guest blogging.
I am sharing the screenshot of this email, lets have a look
Now how you can identify email from MediaDiscovery is a scam or spam and precautions to take care
(1) The lucrative email content :
When UNKNOWN person or company send you the email regarding some lucrative proposal, chances to earn money, win lottery etc. There is a lot of possibility that they are scammers or spammers. So are you thinking from where they get your email? Now a days Internet is grown so much that getting the personal details of a person is easy here personal details are like email, address, phone no. etc.
So from where did they get information. The data they can get from forums, websites or email where you have shared your details.
But anyhow when you sign up with any Mail service or creating any account in any websites you have to share your information. So it is good to stick with renowned and reputed companies atleast they keep your data private, so that your details should not be shared in internet world and spammers do not try to contact you.
Note: Many Domain registrar are against of this policy one of the example is NameCheap.com. Facebook and Google have not commented on this policy
(2) Help from email header also works
Okay, in second point, check the email header from where did you receive the email. If you are using gmail there is a option called “show original”, click on it ,you will get the all details about this email. The real sender ID, the mail server which it was sent etc.
See the below screenshot, in Return-Path the email id is firstname.lastname@example.org . The domainsbyproxy.com domain is managed by Godaddy.com and is use for email notification service. People use this service to hide their identity.
Rather than using company domain name the scammer used the domainsbyproxy.com .Hence this is also questionable. Here I am providing only one reference about email@example.com
Just search in google about this email id you will find many people got spam attack from this email id.So here this is simply misuse of donotreply email service from Godaddy.com
See below screenshot to check Header of email
(3) Check the review and response in Search Engine, forums and Spam controlling organization Site :
You can check the credibility of Company in Search engine like google.com,duckduckgo.com and also check in spam controlling organization like Spamhuas.net .
Also check the about us page of website,it will look suspicious.
What to do with such spamming emails
See the below screenshot
Note: As the Internet web is grown, the social engineering, phishing and spamming techniques are also grown.
Long time back I gave a session on Spamming and Control ,I shared a presentation in my blog.
