Question : Recently CentOS 7 and RHEL 7 is released. After doing minimal installation, I have not find ifconfig command. Do we have alternate of ifconfig command ?
Let me describe the problem –
After installation, I have to connect my system to internet. But ifconfig command is not found . I read your previous article to get ifconfig command, but requires internet for yum command. Can you help me here ?
Answer: Yes, in our last post we have given solution in case ifconfig command is not found. There is one more alternate command of ifconfig which will help you to get IP Address details of system. As well as it will also show the ethernet device name.
Note: The below given command also work on other Linux distro.
ip addr show
Below is the reference from our test system :
[root@localhost ~]# ip addr show 1: lo: <LOOPBACK,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00 inet 127.0.0.1/8 scope host lo valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever inet6 ::1/128 scope host valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever 2: enp0s3: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc pfifo_fast state UP qlen 1000 link/ether 08:00:27:b3:14:0b brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff inet 10.0.2.15/24 brd 10.0.2.255 scope global dynamic enp0s3 valid_lft 67547sec preferred_lft 67547sec inet6 fe80::a00:27ff:feb3:140b/64 scope link valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever 3: enp0s8: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc pfifo_fast state UP qlen 1000 link/ether 08:00:27:60:ca:d9 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff inet 192.168.56.101/24 brd 192.168.56.255 scope global dynamic enp0s8 valid_lft 800sec preferred_lft 800sec inet6 fe80::a00:27ff:fe60:cad9/64 scope link valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever [root@localhost ~]#
