Install Mariadb 5.5 on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

In this tutorial we will learn, how to install Mariadb 5.5 on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. After the Sun Microsystems has been acquired by Oracle, we got a new fork of MySQL i.e MariaDB . MariaDB is led by its original developers. MariaDB has XtraDB storage engine for replacing InnoDB .It also has new storage engine called Aria , that intends to be both a transactional and non-transactional engine perhaps even included in future versions of MySQL .

Description of System

Operating System : Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Freshly installed )
Arch: x86_64
MariaDB : Version 5.5

Follow the given below steps to install MariaDB 5.5 in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

Step 1: Login to the Ubuntu 12.04 LTS server and in terminal write the command

Step 2: Now update the system and install MariaDB version 5.5

Step 3: At the time of installation,on screen you will get message to give Database root password.Give your desired MariaDB root password

mariadb 5.5

MariaDB 5.5

Wait for a few minutes,the MariaDB will be installed

Step 4: After installation get completed, login to MariDB Database Server
